Default Uninsured motorist fee

Does Maryland have an Uninsured motorist fee?

I know in DC and VA you can pay 500 dollars and for 12 months you don't have to have insurance on your car.

I ask cause I am planing to get a classic car and till I fix it up I'm not planing to drive it anywhere but the shop and maybe cursing on the weekend a little. So I really don't wana pay 1500 for 6 months.

From a website I found. Hope this helps.

"Unfortunately, there are still a significant number of uninsured people driving automobiles in Maryland. Not surprisingly, people who are willing to risk not having insurance are also the same people who are willing to take risks in their automobiles, leading to more personal injury auto accident. In Maryland, a uninsured/underinsured motorist car accident insurance claim is available in two situations: (1) Uninsured motorist: the negligent driver has no auto insurance coverage, and (2) Underinsured motorist: where the negligent driver has insufficient liability insurance limits. In other words, the driver who was at-fault for the auto accident has policy limits are lower than the limits of the insured’s uninsured motorist coverage. Essentially uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is insurance coverage that covers your auto accident just as your liability insurance provides compensation for the people that you might injure through careless driving. This coverage in Maryland typically extends to family members who live with you and anyone who is injured in vehicle. "

not in every state, thats why they have an uninsured motorist fee, so you don't pay those fines. You still have to pay all damages out of pocket, again this is a car I'm going to be driving so little I'm willing to take the risk I just don't wana be driving illegally

I today saw a thing for classic car insurance thats only about 400 a year, so I don't need to know about the uninsured drivers fee thing anyway

If you actually live in DC (not that I don't believe that) and you go a whole 15 miles and leave town and get T-boned goin through and intersection, and that state has a strict uninsured motorist law, your gona wish you had insurance. So basicaly, I suggest you get it insured.

Just an FYI in some states if your in an accident without insurance and they find out. You lose your license.

DC if you have a uninsured drivers fee you can drive in DC and only DC, you still have to pay for an accident you cause but you don't loose your license. VA has the same thing, and I was asking if maryland does cause I am planing to keep the car there. For the first year I am planing only driving to where it would get work done and back, so maybe like once a month I'd be driving it, and paying 1500 for normal insurance is retarded.

I found though a classic car insurance that's only about 400 a year which means I don't need to worry about the uninsured fee cause since 400 a year I can afford.

Reqs for the classic car insurance is it must be a pre 1980s, can't be your only car, and you can only put a limited number of miles on it a year. So basically its prefect for my needs.
