Default buying a newly released car

I've never bought a car before, but I want to buy a new car that is just coming out. The dealer says this model is in very limited supply and I have a made a refundable deposit to hold mine.

Do I have any hope of negotiating the price on this? I've heard of people paying above MSRP in situations like this, but it's supposed to be a good time to buy cars right? I'm not clear whether the demand is as high as they say. I want this car (the particular one I have reserved is configured exactly how I want it), so I'm willing to pay what I have to pay, but I don't want to get ripped off.

Any advice?

Is there any general advice about how much people really pay for cars relative to MSRP?

I would never buy a car the first year it was released as the first year models generally tend to have more problems then then later years. Not true for every car but just my oppinion.

Yes, buying a car within it's first model year it nothing short of stupidity. Many design flaws are fixed after the first year AND very often better prices can be had on older models. Many people are well aware of these risks and buy a brand new model anyway just to be the first person on the block to have one.

few of my friends got fvcked when they bought new model cars,
one guy got ml320 as soon as they came out, had problems every few month. unlucky for him he leased it from so called lease agent,, not dealer, so he had to pay for rentals out of his pocket, i saw him driving neons most of the time.
others friend father got 745li, he was one of the first ones in li to get it, the car was in the shop every month, sometimes for few week at a time, electrical problems, he drove rentals most of the time, in about 6 month, got tired of paying for bmw, but driving rentals pos, came to a dealer with a lawyer, returned defective car, got brand new never had a single problem since,
other friend got maxima, previous model, with that useless glass along the roof, out of 3 years owing that had a car in the shop may be for a year combined, there wasn't a thing that wasn't wrong with that car. he didn't have to pay, all was covered, but still, getting brand new car and having nothing but problems, he sued the dealer, they settled and he got 5g back.

now other guy i know got brand new accord, in 2002, or 2003, drove it for 3 years, never had a problem,
my exgf got 08 accord, as soon as they came out, still driving it, not a single problem.

i,m pretty sure there are accords that give problems when new, but I've yet to see one.

i would wait at least a year, for any new release car, so they can work out all the bugs. you may get lucky with new cars, but most likely not.

If you really like the model, I'd say for you to wait for a year or so, if you can so as you'd have a better idea of the flaws and improvements that might come up.. or you could always get another brand/model which already earned a respectable character/status. Thanks and happy motoring
