Default 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

I'm thinking about getting the new Jetta TDI because of its fuel economy but I'm worried about the acceleration with diesel. Is diesel really slow? I was looking on the website and 100 horsepower doesn't look like allot of power...is it really a good choice? And I was also wondering about the standard audio system...is that as good as they say it is?

the stanard audio system is OK. better than most.
as far as acceleration, youll beat the average civic. the TDI's are fast by no means, but far from slow. they dont make much hp, but do make good tq.
i would recommend a VW TDI, or a new chrysler BluTech over any hybrid every produced. costs less and gets just as good(if not bettter) mileage.

There is a huge aftermarket for deisel engines. I don't know about your particular car but I'm sure there is a programmer out there for you that could add atleast 30 extra HP and around 50lbft of TQ.

seriously though I would get a TDI, since diesels aren't smogged you have every option of upgrades from intakes, turbos to exhaust. skys the limits.

Default 2009 Jetta TDI Horsepower

Hi there -

I just got an email from a local dealer and started doing a little research. The 2009 Jetta TDI has 140hp, not 100 as did the older models. This new engine is 2.0 liters of displacment vs the previous model's 1.9. I have been trying to find 0-60 times but with 236 lb ft of torque behind this new engine, I can't imagine it being any slower then most regular gas powered cars. Another bonus with the 2009 TDI is that if you buy the automatic you get the highly acclaimed DSG six speed automatic with paddle shifters on the sterring column. This is an extremely talented transmission and has been reviewed as being as fast or sometimes faster then having a manual. You only give up 1 mpg as well. Hope this helps a little.

Default buy a TDI

The torque more than makes up for the lower HP. Compared to a gas engine these are sweet to drive. Lots of get up and go with a little turbo lag. I purchased a 2009 TDI last week and it blows me away every time I drive it. It is very refined, handles great, and drives like a sports car. My fist tank of fuel is still half full and the car has 360 miles on it. The computer says I can go another 285 miles on the fuel left in the tank.

Get the 17" $450 wheel upgrade. If you like driving a sports car and would like to get 45 MPG, this is the car for you.
