1993 S10 pickup driver side window motor

Not a body man sooo. Can someone tell me the secret of removing the inside door panels to get at the motor? Have a manual but it sorely lacks.

I'm assuming the interior pannels on a 93 S10 are the same as a later model, if not then don't follow this advice. This is what I did for my newer model s10 to remove the door pannel:


Just use a door pannel puller or a flat screw driver and slowly pry the clips towards you until they each one pops out. Then be sure to unclip the power lock and window buttons from the handle, and remove the pannel. As for removing the window motor, I'll leave that answer to someone else with more experience. But removing the inside trim shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes to do.

Yeah, basically you remove the door panel like said above, however removed the 2 screws located in the arm rest first. Make sure the window is in the UP position before you disconnect the window switch.

Once the panel is off, go ahead and remove the foam insulation and plastic weather barrier if applicable.

Next, reach in and find the plug for the power window motor and disconnect it.

Youll need to keep the window in the "UP" position, I simply stuck a piece of 2x4 in there to keep the window from falling after I removed the motor.

Next, drill the 3 rivets that hold the window motor bracket to the door. I think a 1/4" bit will do the trick, but you can go larger if needed.

Once those 3 rivets are out, slide the window motor and bracket out of the window track and pull it out of the door.

The rest should be explained in the instructions that come with the new motor, but just incase, you'll basically grind off the 3 steel rivets that hold the window motor to the bracket. Be careful because there is a spring coiled up in there. When you get the 3rd rivet free, make sure you hold the motor firmly and notice what position its in when it looses tension, then pull the motor off the spring.

Youll install the new motor the same away accept twisting it back on to gain tension back until its in the correct postion to put the supplied screws and nuts on. I recommend using some thread lock on the threads.

Put the motor and bracket back in the door and onto the track, its a bit of a pain but not impossible.

Then you may either use new rivets or nuts and bolts to hold the bracket to the door shell, just make sure the bolts are the correct length.

Hook the switch up and make sure everything works, if it does, reinstall the foam, plastic and door panel and youre set.

should take 30 - 45 mins.

Thanks guy's, Idid the same job on my Merc Grand Marq earlier this year with no problem. It was the two top clips hidden toward the center of the door panel that had me stumped. It was just a matter of getting brave and using more muscle. Anyway, it's done and thanks again.
