Default 1991 chevy s10 no start problem


1991 chevy S10 pickup 4.3 wont start. do have instrument cluster lights headlights and dome light. wont turn over. checked fuses ok. no crank.

Mine did the same thing the first night i had it, there was an alarm that was undisclosed to me under the dash, the valet switch was in a spot where it was always hit with a foot under the dash, wouldnt crank at all either yet ran fine previously.

sounds like either the starter or the starter selnoid or could be the "purple" wire of death. Basically if you hear clicking and the battery is good more than likely its just the starter. Its not hard to get out take it in and check it at an auto parts store for free

alternators in the s10 are pretty crappy. i had one last year and i had to replace it 4 times in a year, regardless whether you remember to turn the car off completely or not.

Check the wires at the starter. They have fuseable links in them that could be burnt up. What that is is a wire with a lead inside that is set to seperate when it is overamped it basically is an inline fuse but it is just a diffrent gauge of wire.
