Wow this would be cool

GM is reportedly prepping a third Kappa-platform sports car under the Chevrolet Sting Ray name, according to the February 2006 issue of Motor Trend. Its target? The BMW Z4 and Porsche Cayman. “Like the Corvette, the Sting Ray would transcend GMs old divisional order,” the article explains. If it gets the green light, the Sting Ray will be a well-equipped, high-spec model, priced “far above” the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky. which are also built on the Kappa architecture. The car is expected to come with a choice of engines, including a new V6, and possibly the same I4 engine featured in the new Pontiac Solstice GXP, announced this past Sunday. Why not a V8? Has GM lost it's mind? You can't bring out a car called a Sting Ray and NOT have a V8!!! What are they thinking?!?

I sure hope they plan on having an LS based motor as an option. It would be pointless not to.

But they already have a Corvette for that. It would appear with this new sports car, they're trying to fill a perceived gap below the Corvette. Putting a V8 in it would almost make it a competitor to the 'Vette, which they surely wouldn't allow.

But they are going to be SLAUGHTERED by the competiton. And they are crucifying the name "Sting Ray" by saddling it with a panty-waste 4 or 6-banger.

It's blastphemous. And if they build it, they will lose the respect of a shitload of GM faithful. Ugh! That's liek the Crossfire, pretty to look at, painfully slow...

I just hope they don't screw it up. A V8 option would be awesome-even a 5.3 to compete against the new M roadster. If they're competing with the likes of the Z4 and the Cayman, I hope they use their DOHC V6.
