Ok, so about 3 months ago. my 1996 firebird trans am suddenly would die on me, then sometimes it would start back up, run fine for a little while then shut off and not start back up. or it would crank and crank, then when i stoped turning the key it would backfire like 2 or 3 times. soo, ofcourse first i thought opti-spark, so i got a brand new one and put it in, and got the same results. it would crank and crank but when i would stop turning it over it would either do nothing or almost act like it would want to start, or backfire. i know i have good fuel pressure(50llbs to the rail) and i have checked for spark at the plugs. then i took the plugs out and they were wet with fuel. thats when i thought who knows maybe my cam chain jumped. so i checked that and the timing marks are lined up perfect. now i am next to clueless. although one of my friends told me its possible my coil could be going bad. and isnt producing a powerful spark for it to fire under compression? but i am out oF ideas. so if anyone has any ideas, i would really appreciate it. THANKS!
