I have an old Dekota 4x4 v8 gas guzzler and want to replace it with a new 4X4 (required where I live)

What new 4x4 gets the best milage, is cheapest and will last the longest. I want to get this paid for before I retire (in about 3 years) and want it to be the last car I ever have to buy.

    Not asking for much...

For me car is just to get from one place to another (I'd rather have a horse). I live in a rural hilly area and need something that can get me out with 12" of snow and will survive on 2.5 miles of gravel and will not ground out on the 'hill' between the ruts.

I know next to nothing about cars, nor these 'all wheel drives'. And, just need something that to get me from one place to another. Make and size are unimportant. MPG and cost are most important.

just buy a 4cyl jeep wrangler. 4x4 good gas mileage for a jeep and it'll go anywhere you need it to from the sounds of it.

wranglers get terrible gas mileage, 4 or 6 cylinder. the 2mpg difference between the 4 and 6 wouldn't be worth it for me but on average they get 20mpg highway. My grand with the 5.2 can see 23 on the highway, average of 20. great cars but theyve never been effecient on gas lol.
