I had been giving some thought to the idea of what makes a car expensive and what we look for in cars. Most vehicles now, especially with any performance sense, handle ok for the street. I wanted to look at some "straight line" numbers and put together something that was just a different look at the cars.

There are four numbers in this list. The horsepower, price, lbs per horsepower and finally, points that indicate how far your money goes considering horsepower to weight. The lower the number, the more bang for the buck. I simply took the price of the vehicle, (if it was $28,000, I just used 28) and multiplied it by the hp to weight ratio. It was the simplist thing I could come up with.

This does not take into consideration ANYTHING except for for what I stated. I threw some odds and ends in there for comparison too, like supercars and turds to give you an idea where these other cars stand.

Please, I spent quite a bit of time on this list, please do not just post and copy without posting my name with it and where you got it. Trying to give not only me some props, but give some up for the board too for advertising.

If there are any you would like added, please let me know and I will edit this post and add it to the list.

    hmm, interesting.

point-wise, very few of the examples made it in the 200s, and the Veyron has over twice as many points as the S7

    201hp / $24000 / 14.1 / 338

Actually, it was $23000 in 2002.

Still not bad. It seems anything in the 300s and lower is decent.

you comparo uses some slightly off numbers. for example, a civic si with nav goes around $24k, but a regular civic si goes around $21k. a jeep grand cherokee srt-8 goes around $44k, etc. etc. which basically means that your numbers are too flexible to have a real comparative value.

it's a nice way to put that the srt-4 is great bang-for-the-buck, but we already knew that
For better mileage, adjust the nut behind the steering wheel.

There's an ass for every seat.

Actually, I used all fully loaded numbers, you just happened to find one of two that I did not. The TBSS and the Jeep GC SRT-8 were the only ones I did not use fully equipped prices for. I could not find the price for the GC fully loaded and didn't feel like looking up the TBSS. LOL The rest are as accurate as I could get them.

I wanted it to be as equal as possible, so I figured using all fully loaded vehicles would be easier.

BTW, check out the MazdaSpeed3. That is pretty good too. I almost bought a Speed6 and had I bought it and found out the Speed3 was faster, I would have kicked Mazda's ass. LOL

Sure, everyone knew it was a good bang for the buck, but what every did not know was how much it was compared to other vehicles. Also, I was anxious to see how some of the other vehicles did, like the Vette, GT500, Charger etc. I could have simply excluded the SRT-4, but why, when it was a good comparison?
