Is there a benefit for using premium gas in a 2004 TL that has 75K miles?
If yes, does it outweigh the additional costs of the fuel?
Thanks

car is tuned for higher octane? yes? it makes more power and gets better mpg when using the fuel it's tuned to. yes the car will run the other stuff, but the engine is less efficient when doing so because it has to retard the timing constantly
about it benefiting your pocket one way or another, i'd say you'd have to run a few tanks through it with both and measure.
Not true, the gas doesn't make more power. The engine always made the same power regardless of 89/91/93. If your car is tuned for 91 there is more timing advance. So using 89 fuel or 91 fuel on a vehicle who is tuned to run safely on 93 the advance could be so great that the engine could prematurely detonate the fuel and destroy the engine. All higher octane fuel does is provide a buffer for detonation. Higher the octane rating the less likely timing advance will cause detonation.
Also, higher octane fuels have better detergents in them to clean your engine. But it's all basically the same.
