I was wondering after fixing a DTC on my car do I have to re-set it by taking the negative side of the battery off to get the check engine light to go off or will it go off automaticly after I correct the problem? Also if I disconnect the battery with out correcting the DTC will the engine light come back on once it runs through its diagnostics again? Thanks for the help.

reset it with a scanner. free at AutoZone. the light will come back on if you didn't fix the problem, another problem arises, etc.

    that is one way, YES
or will it go off automaticly after I correct the problem?
only after 40 ignition cycles and ECU test checks (usually 10-20 minutes per cycle)

Chances are pretty high it will come back again.

most only take 30 seconds to pass or fail.

pull your negative easiest way to clear it. If you fixed the problem it won't come back on.

Thanks for the info. I have a code reader, so I am able to re-set via the reader. I just wanted to make sure that it would come back on. Im still trying to get a chance to get underneath the car to check for exhaust leaks before replacing the O2 sensor. Thanks again for the help.
