99 Honda Civic makes Loud Engine Noise.

I recently bought a used 1999 Honda Civic VP Model with 89000 mileage. When I test drove my Car it worked fine. But now after 1 week, in Michigan, due to Cold weather (single digit) when I start my Car in the morning (Cold Start) I hear a loud Noise for the Engine Area or Hood. The noise goes off after 10 minutes or when the engine is heated up. Sometimes I again hear the noise in the evening in my Office Parking Lot.

Can anybody help me as to what service I need to do to fix it. I enquired with the seller about this problem and all he says is it only happens in winter. He asked me to take it to Mechanic.

I am planning to do Timing Belt Change and 3-Step Fuel System cleaning.

Describe the noise.

Does the nature of the noise change depending on whether the car is idling or in gear? Does it change when you rev the engine?

The nature of noise does not change whether its idling or in motion. It goes away after 10 minutes. The Owner said it started happening last winter and it happens only during cold winter when temperature drops below 25 degree F. The noise is very irritating to ears. It comes from the Engine. Its very loud Noise similar to one we hear when Break Pads are worn out and rubbing against Rotors. Maybe call it a Sqeaking noise. Its not a rattleing noise.

i would have to agree, i had what sounds like the same problem... ended up ignoring it and ripping off 5 teeth on the belt.... good thing motor turned off and saved itself from destroying
