Here is a little background on removing "C" clip style axels from a differential. This particular one here is an open carrier in a leaf spring rear end.

You will notice the though bolt that retains the carrier cross pin I have removed it allready here you see as I start to pull it out. This retains the carrier cross pin that holds the cross gearing inside the differential.

Why did you remove the bearing main caps if you were only removing the axles?
