I have a 97 Eclipse and i have always done my own oil changes. So today i went ahead and did my oil change on my car. I was stupid and didn't read the manual to see how much oil it took. I figured it was like most of the other cars i had and was 4 quarts. I was wrong.. I took it for a drive to make sure everything was ok and i got a couple miles down the road and realized a lot of blue smoke behind me. I pulled over and popped the hood to find oil everywhere. I left about a quarter mile line of oil down the road. I got it home without running it but now i don't know what the problem is. The oil filter and drain plug are both nice and snug. I can't seem to figure out where the oil came from or if this did a lot of damage. Also the motor didn't overheat at all. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The old seal from the old filter was left on. So there were two seals on which lead to a gap where the oil was coming out from. We took the old seal out and put the filter back on and it worked perfect. A mistake we won't make again lol
