me and a friend of mine are almost done putting a 54 chevy p/u on a 1991 s-10 frame. we were going to use the cab mounted factory tank from the 54 but it is leaking so we need to use something else. we can buy an aftermarket cell from summit, but we would rather use something cheaper, and better suited for our situation. i have been told that there are some s-10 blazers or astrovans that have tanks that are mounted in the rear of the truck as opposed to the side mounted tank out of the s-10 pickup. if anyone can help me with the years of the blazer i am looking for please reply. or if you have other ideas, let me know. and we also have an old beer keg we have been toying with using.

I've never seen a cab mounted tank in an S10.. but my best guess would be an early one, or even an origenal Isuzu from the 70's

but we are trying to replace it. but it has now been taken care of. we just got a tank from a 87 s-10 blazer. it fits perfect right where we want it and holds 20 gallons. not 12 like a fuel cell to fit in the same spot

we got an '87 blazer tank and it mounted right up. we just had to weld a bar across the frame and make the top straps. it looks really good and it puts a little weight over the rear as my buddy is driving it without a bed while we do the body work on the cab and box. does anyone know the gears in the stock 82 s-10 rear end? thats what were rollin. mated to the t350 with 2500 stall it goes thru the gears fast and is at about 4000 at 60. quick when it hooks up. we will soon have 10 inch tires on the back so we hope to eliminate that prob

seeing that you have a t350 trany you prob have a SBC engine, which I am willing to bet will be too much for a stock rear end for a s10.

well if you have the blazer's cab you'd have the number identifications on a sticker in the glove box but they go from 4.10 in the 4cyl to 3.09 with some 4.3's, I'm thinking you have a 3.55 or lower since you're at only 4000 rpm at 60, I like the TH350's strength but i like my overdrive

the 10 bolt can handle a fairly stock 350... just don't get to far over 300hp without swapping the rear, the axle shafts wont last as long as you'd like

ya sbc with i beams, solid 512lift/ 304 duration cam with roller rockers, some special pistons, a 400 crank, ported heads. we guess at about 450hp, but thats a guess. he got the whole sbc in the s-10 for $500 and the guy told him that the motor was blown. it really only had 2 blown head gaskets that were cross chambering and a dent in the oil pan so the stud that holds in 1 of the pistons was hitting the oil pan and knocking. whoever built this motor also swithched to an electric fuel pump and left the rod in and put the plater over it so that beat itself up too. we fixed it all and she sounds really nice. it was a clay smith cam and the heads say wild west on them. does anybody know what these mean? the e in west is facing up like a w. must be a trademark. if your around seattle and want to see this truck that we built in 2 months for $2500 then let me know and you can come check it out. we will be taking it to shows this summer.

thanks for the info. the sticker is gone. i checked for that. i think i figured it out by marking the pinion and the driveline and counted out the ratio. by rough math it is around 3.4-3.6 so i bet you're correct with the 3.55. my buddy said he really doesn't think it has 4.1 and another guy swears that 90% of s-10s came with 4.1 but hes wrong i think. there is still no tach but mu buddy also corrected me and said he thinks its closer to 3000rpms at 60. and the truck was a 2.8l if you care. but only the gas tank is from an 87 blazer. the whole frame and suspension are from an 82 s-10. it is confusing, but that is what happens when you build a truck. we didn't even do any suspension work yet and the truck sits lower than most i've seen and still has all the travel in the suspension. and because we got to mount the cab where we wanted, we centered the wheels in the wells far better than any other frame swap on a 50s chev that i have ever seen. most just do clips and they never center the wheels so they look like they are too far forward in the wells. in the front and back. even on the original frame, they look a bit off. oh and even on the s-10 frame because of the cab we used , we moved the motor back about 4 inches which is about what they had to move it forward to fit the sbc into the s-10 body. basically this was a very easy swap and it was my first. only problems were the leaky gas tank we didn't expect and the welder crapping out on us. if anyone is interested, i will post some pics, but i am not gonna waste the time if nobody cares. and i suck at posting pics, so bare with me.

hell i'd like to see this, that sounds like a lot of good luck and an even better truck
you're probably lucky, 10 bolts can be unpredictable, BUT if you want a new rear a posi 8.8 is pretty easy, or you can get a 9 bolt on jegs that's sized to fit an S10

thanks. my bro said were gonna break this one first. weather we weld it up or not. i want to weld it up like the old days, but he said it would just get us in more trouble.

sorry about the fact that i cant figure out how to post the right way. i apologize for all the links. i will try to do a video sometime soon. i've been driving it all week while my buddy is out of town, and it is a blast. i only got the secondaries open one time and it just spun the tires from like 40mph. and thats with a full tank of gas. when we get the 10" tires for the rear, we will be able to go pretty quick i think. the only thing is, i think it will run too fast for the way it is set up now to take to the drag strip. it will need the buckets in it and a bed i'm sure, which will be on after we do the body work on the cab and box. and with any luck we will run too fast and they will say we need a roll cage. but it will probably be sold before we get it to the track. it is for sale now or when its finished. most likely will just have a mildly built sbc at time of sale. the motor in it now, will cost significantly more. you can't build it for less than $4k. well now i am so illiterate on the computer that the files are apparently too big and i don't know how to manually make them smaller, but i do have the pictures on my computer now so i can email them to anybody that wants them. i just need your address. again, i'm sorry. i might try to do this at my other friends house that knows how to do this stuff.
