I'm thinking about buying my friends 1995 turbo charged (maybe super charged? can't remember) v8 Camaro. It has an LT1 engine in it, lots of exhaust work, and a racing fuel pump. He's selling it for $2000. The only catch is that it needs a new transmission.

I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on if I should buy it, or what kind of transmission I should get. I'd like to stay around $4000, but it needs to be able to handle the engine (so it doesn't blow again). I will also be paying someone to put it in (little complex for me). It currently has a manual transmission and I'd like to keep it that way.

Or would it be cheaper/better to just repair the one currently in it. Thanks for the insight!

you can get a T56 that's built up for the power for less than that unless its got a lot of power there are 4 speed military transmissions for a LOT of power, the clutch will probably cost a pretty penny though to handle that kind of power i can only guess, what other mods are done to the engine? is it carb converted or still fuel injected?

a manual trans is the easiest to put in in most cases especially since it was already manual, don't be afraid of it.. a T56 or a T5 will bolt up with little modification

I would suggest absolutely getting somebody who knows more about cars to look over it before you even consider buying it. The fact that you're not even sure what kind of FI is on it, means that there could very easily be more things wrong with it that you are unaware of.
