So I haven't had radio in my '89 Chevrolet C1500 (Cheyenne) for a bit now and after scouring a repair guide I'm beginning to suspect this is a result of a "security" feature that locks the radio off when the battery is disconnected (we had some electrical maintenance done on the car in the past). Why and how this offers any sort of security beyond annoyance for myself or the "thief" is beyond me, but at any rate I'm not real sure how to activate it. :headscrat I've tried the combos listed in the manual to no avail, but even if I was able to bring up the code panel I have no idea what it is or how to obtain one. It's possible the radio is just broken and that's fine, but if anybody has any ideas on how I can get it going figured I'd give it a whirl. Thanks.

idk about Chevy, but on VW's we have the radio lockout ish also...if you don't have the code the dealer can usually get it for you.

Or just buy an aftermarket headunit. :)

those radios lock after batt is disconected, it would say code on the screen, if you enter wrong code 3 or 5 times it would lock it, and word locked iirc, would show. what it means, you need to go to the dealler so they enter master code, they also will charge you pbly more than aftermarket(and better) radio cost.

My dad had the same problem with one of his cars, just ring up the Chevy dealership and they should be able to figure it out for you, or at least that's what my dad did.
