So last saturday i went over to my buddy john's house and used his lift to get my headers and y pipe on. All i have to say is **** the engineers who designed the engine bay, that was such a tight space!! I went ahead and changed the spark plugs too since i was going to have the exhuast manifolds off. It took about 5 hours with all the problems we had(a lot). I went ahead and went with an ORY and got rid of my EGR and AIR(makes the engine bay look cleaner).

I'll have to get ahold of a video camera so i can give you all some sound. I'm just an open y pipe right now and getting ready to put on a bullet muffler and a turndown.

Awsome man. Do you have any plans of having it dyno tuned or having it dynoed at all? What other mods do you have planned? Would love to hear it. I love the sound that headers give V8s.

right now i'm saving up for a 3500 yank stall, tr224 cam, and hopefully after that i can find a good deal on a 12 bolt or 9". After i get the cam and stall in i'm going to get it tuned. I can defently feel a difference up top, and i LOVE the sound of the engine, except the y pipe hits the bottom of my car and gets annoying somtimes, but that's an easy fix(doing that this weekend)

As soon as i get a hold of video camera i'm putting up some vids.

Keep the idiotic comments out please. This isn't a "vs" thread, it was to tell us about his progress on his car.

But I really wanna see if I can top his times, he already said he's getting a video camera, so just making a suggestion.

4 speed auto vs 6 speed auto, hmmmm i wonder which will have better acceleration times, plus i only have 3.23 gears. Now if i had a 6 speed manual that would be a different story.

Get your stall, rear and gears and you will rip, no doubt.

:word2:

If i get gears it'll probably be 3.73s

I'll probably save up for those after i get my stall and cam so i can install the rear end and gears at the same time.

Good plan. I think those gears would be perfect. I know of some guys who went with 4.10s on their cars and weren't happy with the highway driving. 3.73s makes a nice 0-60 increase with only about a 400-500 RPM difference at highway speeds.

if i had the 6 speed i might have been more persuaded with the 4.10s, but no thanks with my 4 speed auto lol

I thought u suspected the previous owner already installed 3.73 rear based on mph shift points

I thought so, but found out it's right on point for having 3.23s. At 60 mph i'm at 2k rpms.

No doubt man. The only ones I have had to mess with were on a mustang, and they weren't too bad, but, for some reason, all of the Chevy headers I have looked at sure did look like a handful. I applaud you for DIYing the job. Many people would have to have someone else do the work for them and having a car that you did most of the work yourself is very gratifying.

yes it is, but when i put my cam in, i'm going to actually get my buddy john to really help me with it so i don't mess anything up lol. The headers actually slid in really easy, just getting the bolts in/out of the exhaust manifold/headers and the coil packs were a bitch. Other than that it went really well.

I looked at my dad's engine bay the next day and just wished i had as much room as his 08 sierra 1500 has lol. You could fit another engine in there there's so much room.

With a 3.23 Final Drive
285/35/18 rear tires
and a .70 4th gear ratio

You should be cruising at 68-69 MPH @ 2000RPM in 4th gear

With the regular 2.73 Final Drive, 2000RPM in 4th gear is around 81-82MPH

With 3..73 Final Drive, 2000RPM in 4th gear is around 59-60MPH.

It does indeed look like you have a 3.73 Final Drive, if you have a 285/35/18 tire (26.13 Inch Diamter) and a 4 speed auto with a .70 4th gear.

Here is another way of putting it...

If your car has 3.73 gears 6000RPM in 1st gear can only reach 40-41 MPH.

If your car has 3.23 gears 6000RPM in 1st gear can only reach 47 MPH

i know i reach about 85 at around 6k in second, i'll check it out later today and see where my 1st gear ends

2nd GEAR...

3.23 = 88MPH @ 6000RPM
3.73 = 76MPH @ 6000RPM
