Jay is a big domestic car fan. You can def tell by watching the vid "$30,000 for a 425hp car. That's pretty good. You would have to probably spend over $100,000 to get 425hp from a European car".
The RS4's MSRP is certainly lower than $100k, but the difference is, the Camaro is so damn heavy, that you don't need that much hp in some other cars to go faster than the Camaro. Hell, my LUXERY sports sedan is as fast, if not faster, with only 340hp, although it does cost more, it's still only $50,000, not over $100,000.
He also stated that new cars are heavier these days because of the added technology. I beg to differ on that statement too. Cars are LIGHTER these days because of technology. The Camaro is always been a heavy car.

Jay Leno is awesome, the new Camaro is awesome....
The V6 version of the Camaro gets almost as much HP as a Mustang GT.... talk about value.

No, he is right. I don't have specs here for a Camaro unless I care to look, but here is an example: 68 Firebird with a 400 Ram Air weighed 3061 pounds.

I think they could've gone a better way with this car. They tried to make it a sportier car by giving it IRS and Brembo brakes but at the same time weighed it down making it a "lead sled".
They should have left the Camaro more like it was. Even Jay comments about how different it is from the cars of the '60s. Not only with the new technology but with the philosophy of the way the car is built. Should have left it as an overweight, overpowered, ass hauler in a straight line like the Camaros before it.

So you think we should put a huge V-8 in a car and then not give it good brakes and handling? It's not like these modern upgrades hamper your precious straight line performance. The Camaro is still a big car with a big V-8 that goes fast in a straight line and has low end torque. I don't understand why giving it IRS and Brembo brakes is suddenly a bad thing because it's a Camaro. Yes, the Camaro was great when it came out, but that was 40+ years ago. You can't expect to release a sportscar now without the features the Camaro has.
If you ask me, Chevy's making a mistake by not offering a track pack like Ford has for the Mustang GT.

they do with higher power levels where traction is an issue. in straight line, solid axle > IRS.

Good point. I don't think it's hurting the Camaro to have IRS though. It shows that the American car makers are finally realizing the importance of handling. The fact that the Camaro's got IRS instead of a solid axle shows that GM's finally wising up and seeing what they are competing with.
