Jaguar XF vs BMW 550i (http://www.dpccars.com/car-videos-09/05-07-09page-Jaguar-XF-vs-BMW-550i.htm) love the new BMW twin turbo engine.

Pretty close. At first glance, I thought the Jag was a Volvo. Jag only had the BMW in braking.

550i has a 4.8L V8 with 360 bhp.
It's almost like mini version M5, very close to the previous E39 5.0L V8 394 bhp M5.
In fact I'm willing to bet their pretty much identical in performance also.

Where on earth did you get that number? The M5 hits 12s all day long.

bad drivers....

I was thinking that 12.7-12.9 would be highly more appropriate. :headscrat

and that would make them not very close at all, lmao. :rotf:

Work on the new BMW M5 is gathering pace, industry sources have revealed to Autocar. M division is collaborating closely with the team developing the next 5-series, and plans to take the supersaloon fight to Mercedes’s doorstep with an all-new, fifth-generation 550bhp M5 in 2011. Mercedes is currently working on a ground-up redesign of the E63 that will appear in 2009.

The new 5-series, due in 2010, will be an obvious evolution of today’s design, and the new M5 is expected to use the current V10, bored out to 5.5 litres. It is also likely to get a direct injection, turbocharged unit, to reduce emissions. The engines will be available with either the six-speed manual gearbox or the new seven-speed M DCT double-clutch transmission.

Further improvements in fuel economy would result from the use of the company’s stop-start technology. BMW has already emphasised that it wants to reduce the emissions of the new 5-series through the Efficient Dynamics programme and it’s unlikely that the M5 would sidestep this technology. The part-time alternator system, for example, which is branded as regenerative braking, boosts power and economy without in any way affecting performance.

Audi has gone back to turbos too. It's just too convenient to make hp and keep fuel consumption low.

There are more than drag times that pertain to performance...

I dont think the N63 is going on the 5 series as far as I know. Never heard of the 555i.

Expect the 2012 M3 to have a V6 and the 2012 M5 to have a V8.

That engine IS going in the X5 I think or X3. It is slated for the 5 series.

It's going in both the X5M and X6M. Not to mention if they put it in the regular 5 series it would have more power than the M5...

Yeah I'm really liking the new supercharged S4. Pretty much just as fast as the V-8 model but gets 3 extra mpg on the HW. And the best part its just a pulley swap and a tune away from hanging with any other audi model except the R8 V10 and the RS6 which sadly is not availble in america. Yeah they finally are going to make a M divsion X5 after years of people asking. Its going to have a TT V-8 which will have the same power as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. But still give me a Jeep SRT-8 with 5k to spend on it and it will out run both of them.

As much as I love turbos, these people are putting turbos on for the wrong reasons. Carmakers these days design their engines around emissions and personally, I think thats a horrible shame.
