I have a 1996 Blazer that is 4x4 problem is that the 4x4 does not work. I have replaced the 4x4 switch on the dash. I have replace the switch on the front end, and the drive shaft to the front does kick in when I push the button. But the front tires do not pull.

check the Diff locker, I'm not sure if 96's had the electronic locker yet.. if its a vaccume actuated locker, they go bad really easy... but arrent too hard to replace...
if the driveshaft is spinning but the wheels arrent i'd assume its the locker

essentually how it works... is when the transfercase is on and spinning it creates some vacume pressure that goes off a line to the front pass wheel well where the diaphram is...
if there is a break in the line to it or the diaphram looks a little worn i'm sure you know what to do...
the other side of the diaphram has a cable attached to it and i doubt thats bad BUT if that broke it definatly wouldn't work eather so check it all out.

IF you have the electronic locker... look on the side of the diff housing facing the engine, you may not be able to see it, its squeezed inbetween the front crossmember and the oil pan BUT it'll have a solinoid with a plug attached to it with NO cable, you can just unbolt the solinoid to replace it, though i'm pretty sure you'll have to pull the engine or the differential to actually get at it
