99 Blazer, v6. New starter, alternator, battery. Sometimes you turn the key and it starts right up. Other times, nothing. All the dashlights come on like normal, but nothing happens, not even a click. I don't really see a pattern, except possibly cold weather, and maybe short trips. Anyone have any ideas? Thanx, Mike

try charging the battery for a few days with a low amp charger and see if it changes, after that make sure your starter solinoid is working/ tight, also check your ignition and its wiring

Thanx guys. Is there a way to test the ignition switch without removing it?

if you've got a test light or a volt meter you can see if it does anything when you turn it to start

I have a volt meter. Where would I hook it up? You'll have to excuse me, but I am by no means a mechanic, and these 'modern' vehicles make my head spin! If it was a '76 Blazer with a smallblock, I could fix anything! Thanx for your help guys, Mike

now that i don't exactly know, there is a block of wires under and around the steering column, if you look up what color wires handle the starter and power to the ignition you should be able to get to them, Google search it or something I've gotten quite a few diagrams through Google from auto zone

starting systems have progressed very little in 30 years. Give the starter a few good whacks with a hammer. If it starts up, replace the starter.

I've already replaced the starter. It doesn't start in the morning when it's cool out, even with a charger on overnight. And it's not that cold - 20's and 30's. Every afternoon, when it's warmer (50's) it turns right over.

I appreciate all your help, Thanx. I wonder if you have seen my other thread: "turn signal - starter security feature" (I would have put in a link but don't know how!). I can't help but think that somehow that is part of the problem. Thanx again guys, Mike

there is a chance the wires they put in have corroded loosened up and when it warms up it makes the connection but can't in the cold

Thanx guy. I'm going to get inside the column tomorrow and see what I can find.
