the oil pressure guage in my car is acting kind of weird. The gauge goes from 0-80. When the car is warmed up and idling the oil pressure gauge reads around 25, and when on the highway at 65mph it reads around 45. I heard that it's supposed to be much higher than what it is acutally showing me. Could this be a bad oil pump? Thanks for any advice!

What Rpm is the engine turning at that 65 mph?The 25 psi at a hot idle is good.I think the spec is ok as far as GM is concerned,if i can remember to look on AllData at work,it has GM's specifications on there.RACE engines go by old rule of 10 psi oil pressure for every 1000 Rpm's you're going to turn the engine, that is for old pushrod American V8's.7000 Rpm shift points, you should have 70 psi oil pressure when at that Rpm.You could also hook in a mechanical oil pressure gauge to verify the accuracy of your dash gauge.

well at 65 it's usually around 2000-2200 rpms(its a 4 speed auto)

What's the oil pressure at say 3000 Rpm's?Reason i ask is,most engines are at their peak oil pressure by 3000-3500 Rpm's......2000 Rpm is kinda low to be measuring peak or maximum oil pressure.
