I'm 17, looking for a first car. I can probably spend anywhere up to $6000 (possibly a bit more) and basically what i'm looking for is:

Good acceleration, quick, fast. basically a sedan or two door that's really fun to drive. Maybe a stick shift? My parents own a lexus SUV which i hate, a ford pickup which i hate even more, and a 2000 BMW sedan which is a blast.

I'm not a super car mechanic or anything, i know very little about them and just looking for something that isn't a complete bitch to repair, minor stuff here and there is fine, i'd love to learn about the car and take care of it but yeah. It would be mostly stock or whatever comes with when i buy it, don't know anything about modding cars or w/e.

I would be buying a USED car, probably off craigslist. Probably something in the 1990-2007 range, i don't like the looks of the really old cars in general.

Well anyway some of my first choices were
- Mitsubishi Eclipse: in a nutshell, i heard they're not reliable, slow, lethargic.
- Honda Prelude: i was told it's also kinda slow, should be quicker for a car that size.
- BMW: But they simply cost too much to maintain, i guess. Parts are rare
- Impala: At the highest of my interest right now, don't know much.

If you have any input about the Impala or other cars you think would fit my description, please reply! Thank you for your time!

Theres quite a bit of difference in a year range like that is there a specific year or smaller year range that you like for each car?

I dont know how much fun your gonna get from an Impala But there Big safe Cars and the Late Models Get good Gas Milage. But then Again You getting a FWD car if you buy late Model also and Theres not alota fun factor in that IMO. The older Imp SS were nice good motors Fast enough for a 17 year old and RWD.

Honestly, the newer Impala's aren't bad. They handle well enough for a FWD vehicle, they're a little on the large side, but the aftermarket for the 3400 and 3800 V6's these cars come with is extensive, and certainly can make the car more fun. :) Especially if you get a supercharged SS.

The older Chevys with RWD are easy as pie to work on and will run FOREVER as long as you take care of them. My brother had a 1977 Impy that would not die. He drove the dog piss out of it to 370,000 some odd miles and sold it for what he paid for it. The only major repairs we did to it where the motor mounts and brakes. The exhaust rusted through and we got the kids at the shop class to weld a new pipe on it. And they are tanks. You cant hurt one.
