So i just traded in my 01 eclipse for a 98 camaro z28. The check engine light was on so i called the previous owner why it was on. He told me it was a sensor and it was nothing to worry about. He did mess with the exhaust and i was wondering if this might be the reason why the check engine light was on. Thanks for any help!

98 Camaro,OBD2 connector, buy a cheap code reader for $60,or auto zone will pull the code for you free, but it depends if the previous owner removed any O2 sensors or the cat when he did the exhaust work.

most of the time no.
how to fix a check engine light.
you need, a phillips screw driver, a new roll of black electrical tape, snips, tape mesure.
mesure the size of the ce light, take a screwdriver, poke a hole in tape packing clear film, remove the packing film, cut a piece of tape big enough to cover ce light, put the tape over ce light, bingo. cl light no more.

ok, thanks deltaolds, i'll probably go up to autozone first to find out what it is and if it's one of those two i'll probably do what you said to do.

you can remove the bulb, i,ve seen many cases, where my friends asked me to look at the car, they were gonna buy, i turn ignition on, all warning lights would light up, but ce wasn,t on, reason? bulb out. since i,ve never seen it burn out, it must,ve been taken out, to cover the problem, but it is only visual, once you hook it to a scaner it will still see the problem.
as for tape joke, i know few ppl that did that to cover blinking clock light on their vsr's.

if he messed with the exhaust, you need to make sure the 02 sensor(s) are working. If there is only one, you need to keep/reinstall it. If there are 2, you need to reinstall the FIRST one. The second 02 sensor is just an efficiency indicator for the cat, but the first one controls your AF ratio.
