we were fixing to upgrade our speakers in our old 2001 Chevrolet Malibu LS . WE DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO UPGRADE THE AMP OR ANY ELECTRICAL The only thing we want are more efficient speakers.suggestions please thanks. Also if you can give me the specs on the OEM speakers that would be great i looked on the ACDelco website and didn't get anything.

almost any aftermarket speakers are better than original paper cone ones, but you won,t hear the difference much if at all,(unless your speakers are riped, or soaked, or damaged), cuz your stock radio has specs that are handled by your stock ones, putting better ones, will be overkill, your radio doesnt have the power, the friquecy range, and signal to noise ratio, to justify, putting high end speakers.
also if you still wanna do it, you wanna make sure your stock speakers are 4 ohm, cuz that is what almost all aftermarket ones are, some cars i worked at had 2 ohm, so putting 4ohms in the place of 2 ohms isn,t a good idea generally, i had to wire 2 2 ohms speakers to compensate.

if you upgraded the headunit, that would make a noticable change.

by the amp you mean, the one build into your stock radio?? there isn,t any external amp, unless your car has custom order radio (which i doubt even exsict)
oem radio is no more than 20-30w, for each channel, s\n ratio is pbly in low to mid 80s,

is it cassete radio or cd, or just am\fm??

power rating mesured in watts, for radio(how much it makes), and for speakers (how much it can handle), there is rms(constant), and peak power rating, rms is a lot more important, i mean what good 200w peak watts are, if your radio can only squize out 50.

spl, sound pressure level, it is speaker specs, it is how much pressure(sound) speaker can produce, given certan amount of power. the higher number of spl, the louder a speaker is.

try them, see how they work,
but first try to adjust yours, there are treble, base ballance, and fade controls on your radio, ballance should be 50\50, or 0.
fade i usually set more for the rear sp. cuz 6x9 can handle lows better than front, treble and base adjust while playin something, you'll hear what setting sounds the best.

try that first unless you already did it.
