We are trying to find directions to uninstalling, rebuilding, and reinstalling new rebuilt trans to our Tahoe. Anyone have step by step information? Thank you, Grog

Rebuilding an auto trans is a huge undertaking if you don't have any experience, it also requires some tools and access to certain specs and fluid flow charts the average person doesn't usually have laying around.

Just taking out the parts, installing new clutches, seals and bushings might work for you if your lucky. A lot of times there something else going on like a bad sprag or pump just to name a couple.

Yep.it's a major, major job,and rebuilding an auto trans is something that takes alot of knowledge acquired through years of apprenticeship, and also requires some special tools, and technical information. For example,if the trans in your truck is a 4L60E,which it probably is,here is my basic parts list for an overhaul. If you do not know what these parts are, then don't attempt an overhaul.Banner overhaul kit with steels, filter, bushing kit, thrust washer kit, torrington bearing kit, input sprag, low roller clutch,SK4L60E shift kit,2-4 Band, hardened sun shell,or "the Beast" sun shell, pump vane kit, remanufactured torque convertor.Thats a basic parts list assuming the drums, pump, and planetaries are OK.Tools required are...spring compressor for the clutch drum springs.snap ring pliers, pump banding alignment tool.Teflon sealing ring installer, sizer for the input drum.Low Reverse spring compressor.Inch pound torque wrench, foot pound torque wrench.H gauge for checking unit end play, bushing driver set to remove and install new bushings. When my transmissions are done and rebuilt,i expect at least 10 years,or 100k miles from them.I have a Ford C4 trans that i built for a buddy back in 1985 or so still going strong in a 66 Mustang.
