1999 Malibu LS 3.1 L Style M OBDII

Previously...
-Dim headlights
-Random ABS, Brake, Theft Light, but always off at next start up
-Sun Roof doest always like to close
-Gas gauge works until your down to a half tank, then it starts to go back up instead of down until its empty, then it shows empty
-Sometimes when you turn on the a/c, the gas gauge jumps to full and stays there until you shut it off
-Check engine came on once, but was off at next start up
-occasionally had to tap gas at startup

And then...
-Driving home, turned right --car died, no warning lights, or funny noises, just died.
-Initially restarted, but it was rough and sounded like it had a timing issue.
-Towed it home and now it will crank but not start.

-tried ether, no fire--but you can hear the fuel pump
-spark plug test shows no spark
-checked all fuses inside and underhood
-all 3 coils and coil wire were checked
-changed crank position sensor, no change
-changed ignition control module, no change
-changed igntion switch, no change
-checked the only known fusible link by the alternator, its good
-checked for continuity and connection issues around cps, icm, and pcm
-did the relearn procedure for the computer

It is not passlock, the security light does not flash. Tried to reset it anyways, and the light never went off

The multimeter died after checking the igntion switch--coincidence??

SO whats left??? Why wont my car start????

First thing is to scan ALL the computer modules. There is the PCM/ECM that controls engine and trans, body control module (BCM) that controls all the things like your gauge cluster,ABS module,(anti lock brake system),you need to scan ALL the modules for codes. When you go in with the scan tool, you have to manually go into all these modules.Write down all the code numbers and definitions. After recording the codes, clear them.Check ALL your grounds. If you can't find them, add new ground straps. You can never have TOO many grounds. Here's how the grounds go.Battery to engine/trans.Engine/trans to chassis, chassis to body,or any other grounds you may want to add.If you want to go battery to body to chassis,go for it,it won't hurt.It could also be a bad ignition switch,i've seen similar problems on a 98 Chev 1500 truck where it was the ignition switch.

my husband had checked all the grounds--we dont have a scanner though--i wish we did, and the car isnt drivable, so we cant take it anywhere either. we think he bought a bad ignition module, or the first ignition switch damaged it, because it was definitly bad. were getting a replacement tomorrow, and hopefully that will fix it. he is used to and prefers pre 1985 cars--and doesnt like all the computer nonsense!! he has gone over and checked every spark related component in the car--what are the odds its the pcm itself???

Slim that its the ECM but if there was ever a case for it to be yours is it.

Just guessing blindly I'd lean more toward the ignition switch though.

This reply is very late for this thread but if your still having problems or maybe this thread turns up on someone's search as it did for me; let me add my experience. A 1999 malibu had warning lights on left side of dash, no gauge action on right side of dash, no automatic lights, lights did work manually. The car would start but only run for about 1 or 2 seconds. The usual key on for 10 minute reset did not work. After much web searching (this site is GREAT) I had it narrowed down to the BCM under the glove box and in front of the heater blower. Here's what I found....the connectors on the BCM were very corroded! So much so that one wire was rotted out of the connector. After removing the BCM I found 3 pins on the BCM were rotted also. My guess is either coffee was spilled on top of the dash and ran down the wiring harness into the connector or the heater core went out and sprayed anti-freeze onto this connecter. I'm just guessing on the cause. The fix... I went to a junk yard and for eight bucks I cut-off the three connectors from a good wiring harness. I then one by one cut the old wires and solder/shrink wrapped the the new connectors onto my wiring harness. Over 40 of these to wires to do. As for the corroded pins in the BCM, I opened the BCM box and soldered wires to the proper spots on the circuit board corresponding to the bad pins. I then brought these wires outside the box and connected them to the proper wires on the harness. Not a fix for the faint of heart but it did work for me. Be patient and good luck! By the way my girlfriend thinks I'm a genius.
