I'm not sure what year it is. I believe its a 95 though.
and I was just wondering, what would be a good engine swap?

drop in a 350 vortec!!! It's been done many times, and they are badass.....

I really don't know about engines or anything performance wise :(
what cars are they usually in?

you can find them in older silverados and sierras with the 5.7 liter engine. Subarbans, tahoes, of the same generation will typically have them. Mostly the 90's models. I'm not sure what kind of hp numbers they were pushing, but I think it was around 250-270 bhp. They had lotsa torque though. They will push a little truck like that pretty quick.

oh they're in other chevys cool I love Chevy it's been in my family forever. and that sounds good to me, thanks.
what do you think about a lift? not to much just 2 inches. that and a supercharger?

Lift kits should be readily available for your truck. You gonna do some off roading, or you just want the lift for the look? I'm not 100% positive about a supercharger for the 350, but I'm pretty sure that you should be able to find one from somewhere.

I'm gonna do off roading, I did it in my Mountaineer but just got rid of it for the Trailblazer and can't do much off roading in that. But I'm def gonna do it in the S-10. and I'll search ebay for a supercharger once I get the truck.

Given that you say you don't know much about performance and/or haven't had much experience under the hood, I feel it's only being neighborly to warn you that you need to know what you're doing to install any sort of boost device on an engine.

Simply slapping a supercharger between your heads and calling it a day is generally not a good idea. Unless you're running in the area of 5 or less lbs of boost, your air to fuel ratios will be much too lean. I haven't researched the vortec engine as of yet, but most engines set up for natural aspiration come with cast internals, which are weaker than their Forged counterparts and not made for combustion under boost.

Depending on how much boost you want, you will need to:

1)build your engine from the bottom end up with forged internals.

2)find the correct fuel injectors and fuel management system to handle the greater flow

3)find a supercharger *specifically* for the Vortec, or fabricate a mount because it comes with a 4 bolt intake manifold, and not a 6

4)Determine if the use of an intercooler is necessary, and if not, whether you want one anyway because of the advantages it yields

I say this only because I've learned this from experience. Supercharging applications take time, research, lots of math, and even more money. It gets REAL expensive if you want big numbers. Even if you dont, you're still probably looking at upwards of a grand in parts if you buy a kit, and that's a cheap one.

My advice would be to stick to natural aspiration until you've read up on how superchargers work and what needs to be done to make them work correctly. There's PLENTY of power to be found in a n/a V8, and unlike smaller engines, it's pretty easy to come by. Better heads, bigger headers, true dual exhaust, and a more aggressive cam can net you quite a bit of power in pretty much any 8 cylinder engine. It's also much cheaper, much easier, and much quicker.

oh wow thanks, i need to bookmark this thread.
once I get it I will ask more questions.
I'm mainly gonna use it for off roading and maybe hauling wanna get a 2500 for that though.
but I also want to take good care of it since it's my grandfather's and all. I wanna keep this in the family for a while.

If it was your Grandpa's,personally,i wouldnt hack it up,but it's yours so.There are plenty of trucks out there if you want one to hotrod or hack up or modify.Installing a V8 in an S10 is quite possible, but fabricating skills and equipment ARE mandatory.I have plenty of friends running drag racing stuff..70's Luv truck,80's S-10's with 434 cube smallblocks..etc.Horsepower in the 800-1000 range. The Luv truck i watched pull an 1/8th mile wheely with a TH350..3 gears/2 shifts,no wheely bars..ran a 5.98 ET 1/8th @115 mph, then drove it home.

255 or 265 hp. im leaning towards the latter

my dad said the same thing. but it needs work. i'm not gonna do to much to it really just simple stuff under the hood and a lift, not gonna add a supercharger anymore mainly cause of the price.
