i picked up a 63 nova that has a 350 auto if the motor was ran with no tranny fluid for about 1-2 minutes is it hurt? cause when i got it there was none and i put some in but it doesnt engage

Yes there is probably some damage. Fluid is not only used as a lubricant but for cooling and applying pressure to the clutches, without good pressure clutches will burn up.

If you run an automatic trans completely dry,the first thing to be damaged is the pump in the trans,and the bearings or thrust washers in the torque convertor.How do you know there was NO fluid in it all?If their was any residual and the pump got lubricated any at all,you might be ok,just a shortened life span of the pump.A torque convertor.TH350,will hold about 4 quarts in it even if all the fluid drains out of the trans.Thats presuming the trans was fluided up,then sprung a leak.
