2006 EVO IX MR, 54k miles, stock clutch...made it out to the track today. only power mods are a dirty K&N filter, and HKS carbon Ti catback. spun my ass off on the cold track and cold tires, but still finally managed to break into the 12's.

next time i go i'll have to remember to soften up my suspension (buddy club racing specs set to autoX stiffness), and let some air out of the tires (48psi front, 44psi rear). that should help me get traction in the cold.

here are the slips:

Nice times! What boost were you running?
I can relate to the traction issues as was ~47F at my local track today. Couldn't hook for anything with my street tires.

WHY are you running 44+psi in your tires?!

x2. Way too much pressure.

high pressure is my autocross setup. i normally run RT-615's, but on the last set i went to something better in the wet....i heard these were 95% as good as the RT's in the dry. goodyear eagle F1 GS-D3's. the sidewall is really soft and on anything lower than 40psi it feels like riding on 4 flats. maybe it's just me, i dunno.

as far as boost, as for power mods the car is bone stock other than a k&n filter, and an HKS carbon ti catback exhaust. no tune. no boost controller, no nothing. stock clutch. if i could hook up i'd be hitting 12.6-12.7. that's what i'm gonna shoot for next time i go back.

what's the recomended pressure? how about the max on the tires? you're probably screwing up your contact patch pretty bad. especially once your tires get some heat into them

A few things you can do...run some heats on various pressures to find what turns the fastest lap times. Also, to maximize your contact patch, put your car down on some carbon paper at different pressures and see which produces the best copy. You may not be seeing the full potential of your car.

You are running WAY to much pressure plain and simple.

agreed. At pressures like this, your tires are making a U-shape. There is a VERY small contact patch right in the center of the tire when you do this. I wouldnt be surprised if your tires were nearly bald right down the middle. You should NOT have traction issues in an AWD. Especially with stock hp.
