So I wake up and go to work this mornig, maybe 5 miles away from my apt. I'm at a stop light jammin to Breaking Benjamin, and I lose my radio and instruiment panel, "What the Hell" so the light turns green, I drive for a little bit, and all of a sudden I lose all the dash panel lights and the car starts to fade and "PLING PLING PLING" the pulley on the crankshaft shoots off the crankshaft through the plastic shielding and out on to a main drag. NOTE TO SELF: NOT GOOD - cars dead. :headscrat  :(

So now the car sits in my covered parking spot and I took the shielding off. Well if you look in the "Haynes Manual" I'm missing the bolt, the plate that holds the pulley on the crankshaft and my belt is ****ed up, not to mention the ****ed up pulley that bounced across the main road "which I found". :shakehead

Can anyone give me an estimate of how much it is going to cost to get that stuff? Going to take a pics tomorrow. :shakehead

Doesn't surprise me that a Mitsu would pull this kinda stunt, but I've seen a few cars do this. Last time I did the work, we charged the kid $2200, but that was also because some things were royally screwed internally. Parts were up there, but what all do you think you need, just the bolt, the plate, and the pulley? You're looking around $400-$600 for parts, more if other things were screwed up. Don't forget, the crankshaft pulley is bolted to the crankshaft itself, and if all that rotational weight is suddenly, and forcibly removed from the engine like you said it was, the crankshaft itself would have seen some movement as well, which, I'm sure it's pretty obvious, is not good for the engine.

Well - that's an interesting way to have sheared off. I was thinking it broke off at the crank, that's the way I've always seen 'em. You're located in Cali, so parts might be a bit expensive (because you have to go OEM to be legal.). Not sure. I usually recommend aftermarket parts for around here.

Like I said it just shot off, no damage what so ever, the belt is still in tact, but the bolt, and plate, and obviously the pulley are just gone.

I don't understand?

Easy fix though, just need parts. yeah OEM, thats y I fate California, but then again I could always go the aftermarket route, and how are they really gonna know? It's a pulley and a belt, it's not like I'm going to boost anything by modding the drivebelt.

What aftermarket do you consider, and good price?

I don't even know what I'm looking at. What is missing? I was under the impression that the crank pulley for the timing belt back out. Did the crank pulley seperate?
