My neighbor has an old eclipse in his driveway and he told me that he wants to sell it, He wants 300 for it, but i want to take a look at it, I am a general motors guy, but its a good beater for the winter so im looking at buying it. before i bring it to work and put it up on a lift i want to know what i should look for anything specific that is really common, its a first generation AWD turbo with a standard transmission.

If its modified check the transfer case and if you plan to race it at all, run a boost leak test.

My plans for the car is to beat it all winter, put a 500$ maco paint job on it and some dubs and sell it to a ricer in the spring for a big profit.

Dubs won't fit, you'd rub it all to hell. You could try the $50 paint job if you REALLY want to go cheap and it looks real good. Selling it for a profit? You may want to read into the history of these cars. Not the most relaible cars, if they have not been mainted in the past. You coud end up paying more to fix it then anything.

So far all i have found wrong with it is it needs a cat back exhaust and an alternator, I bought a 10' stick of 3" pipe and im gonna bend one up as soon as i can get it on the lift at work to measure things up. Im gonna do a timing belt too just to be safe because its an interference head.

Smart thing to do, let me know if you need any advice about the timing. One thing you should note, the oil pump can be lined up but not be timed correctly. Make sure you time it right.

Aw, have some respect. Don't sell it to a ricer. :shakehead
j/k. $$ talks. Good luck. Theres a buyer for everything, you just have to find them.

Ricers are easy to sell stuff to, they have no technical knowlege so it it looks good they buy it. But.... i threw a dealer plate on it and took it out for lunch yesterday and i was amazed by it. I have raced 4cyl VWs and Chevys, but never anything with a turbo because the class rules dont allow it. I have to give this car credit it really does good. I have never been in a car that launches like that.

when you go to sell it, you might want to think about putting it on ebay they sell for way more then they are worth.

I was thinking of that, when the time comes i will most likely do that. I am already getting asked about it from my friends i have an offer for 1500 right now, but i think im gonna keep it for a while and have some fun with it.
