My daily driver is a 93 chevy 1500. I have a 305 (5.0L) and i am looking to get just a little more power out of it. What im really looking for is power at 60MPH. when i go to pass someone on the highway it doesn't have any power and down shifts and still doesn't create much power. I am just looking for a little more so that i either have enough low end so that i don't have to down shift, or to have enough high end that i can get the job done. I still need drive ability because its my daily driver, and i tow a car trailer on weekends. Fuel mileage is important and my budget isn't that big. I have been looking at those edelbrock intakes, but i cant find a single thing about actual performance increases. I dont want to spend 300 on something that wont even say how much HP or torque gain i will get, if any. Bottom line is that im looking for low buck performance out of my throttle body 305.

The problem with TBI 305's is the bore size. The stoke is huge for the bore, same as a 350, but the bore is still smaller than a 289 V8's. Meaning, lots of torque right off idle, but go past 4k rpm and you're SOL for power. I've got a TBI305 in my Caprice (without the vortec heads) so I understand your problem.
You can start doing mods that'll boost power over the whole RPM range, maybe get a cam that's ground for higher RPM power, but the bottom end will always pull harder than the upper with these engines.

A good start to understanding the TBI 305, even if geared a bit more towards F bodies there's tons of information on that site about the 305.

Im just looking for a little bit of grunt. not much, the buget is the big problem. i only have about 200, i might be able to come up with more, but it really has to be worth it.
