i have a friend who asked me to try to look for information about doing just that, throwing a turbo on one. being on dial up and lazy doesn't produce results efficiently. i was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge of such things.

i'm not sure if it has the 3.4 or 3.8. not sure what year. not sure why he'd want to...

Either motor, without intercooler, can be turbo'd to 5-9 PSI safely, assuming you use 91 octane fuel or better. Beyond that, you're going to need to tune, and an intercooler, and to shell out probably 3-4 thousand dollars.

i think he's looking for examples and almost like a step by step kinda thing. dude is in washington, i'm in va.

figured it could handle 5psi with stock fuel pressure and such, i think he wants more though. have to talk to him later tonight

i really haven't looked into it, but the compression isn't too high for boost? if not, i'll just tell his ass to boost for 5psi and stfu

If it's the 3400, then no, it's not too high. 9.5:1. I've seen engines with compression ratios as high as 10.5:1 have no problem with boost levels under 12 PSI.

depends on the block also, horsepower freaks made 634 RWH @ 13.5 PSI on stock internals on the E46 M3's S54 block which has 11.5:1 compression

The 3400 block is amazingly strong. The 3800 is too, so no worries there.
