I just bought a 2000 tahoe with four wheel air (auto air ride shocks) I had a Yukon Denali before that.

The Tahoe is smooth as silk on the interstate but rides rough on rough roads while the Denali was smooth with Bilstiens shocks. Can this be adjusted or changed to ride smoother on rough roads?

Thats the great things about air bags. Just take out some air and presto, you've got a smooth suspension.

Its not that easy, this is a computer controlled automatic air system. Give me your vin and i will see what you have for a setup.

Correct. They use a self leveling system that is controlled by computer based on the weight in the vehicle. Honestly, air bags are just bouncy off road, that is normal. I am not sure if there is a fix for this though. Some will still take coil overs though, that may help. The guys with the trailblazers used to do coilovers and possible something else to improve ride, but it's been so long, I honestly can't remember what it was.

LOL it's great that you can look all that stuff up and then paste it onto the thread, but it doesn't really answer his question, in fact, it has nothing to do with his question.

Perhaps you can weed out the relevant information to help him out.

I tried to help.

you have the Z55 suspension. I cant find any service bullitens about it, that may just be the way that it rides.

The reason that i posted the rest is because it sounds like he just bough it and might be curious about what info he can get about it. In the future if i feel the desire to post on any of your threads i will refrain from saying anything that might be off topic. Sorry to irritate you

Sorry, I did not mean to come across so abrasive. You just posted alot of info, perhaps too much for most of us to go through and try and find the answer to his question. You obviously have alot of info at your finger tips, but chances are high that he doesn't know how to use the info you posted to help him answer the question.

Can you simply add something to help out? Perhaps explain his suspension and possible ways to solve his issue?

The RPO code for his suspension is Z55. Which is just a 3 digit code on his build sheet to describe some part of his vehicle. Just like he has a limited rear slip axle, I know that because the build sheet has a G80 code.

The Z55 suspension isnt something that i have much expierence with. its not a common option. It works the same as most other systems. It is a lot like almost any other system. On top of the rear shock tower is a sensor with a little rod that attaches to the rear axle to tell the position of the rear suspension. The front has a similar design on the control arm. That sends a signal to the suspension control module which is located over near your rear ac blower. there is a compressor on the frame rail in the middle of the vehicle on the passenger side. Having never driven one of these vehicles its a little hard to say what the ride is supposed to be like. The first step would be to determine if there is a leak, turn the key to the on positon but do not crank the engine, listen to the pump does it run for a very long time? If so check air lines, they go from the compressor to each shock absorber. Try to find someone else who has the same vehicle with the same suspension. see how that rides, if it does not have the Z55 suspension then comparing them would not do much good.

Now THAT is an excellent reply!! Very informative

One thing i forgot is that this rear suspension has coil springs on the rear axle instead of the standard equipment leaf springs. Still got the same old torsion bars in the front.

Thanks for the info there does not seem to be an air leak. Matbe there is an after market shock that will replace these if we decide the ride is too hard. AS I mentioned earlier it is very smooth on the interstate.

Thanks

If you do aftermarket shocks then you have to get the active ones that work with your system, or get all four passive. You cannot put two passive ones on.
