I have a Lancer Evo 9 SE and i just needed to know if it truly is neccessary to get a turbo timer. I have over 3,000 miles on it already and i usually wait atleast 5 minutes before i turn the engine off and around 8-10 minutes after long drives. Does anybody know in general how much time i should wait before i turn the engine off and should the waiting time change depending on how far or how fast you drove the car?? I know it can be a hassle when you have to wait to turn the car off but a mechanic told me its better to leave the electrical aspects of the car alone because it might affect how the car functions if something is done incorrectly.

Necessary??? no. If you have the factory turbo, it really wont make a big difference. Letting it run for a couple minutes before you shut it off will just prolong the life of the turbo. As long as you know what you're doing, you probably wont hurt anything installing one. The main thing is to make sure your battery is unplugged before assembly.

^^Agreed. You don't need one, especially if you running a stock turbo set up. If you start getting into heavy modding, it may be good to get one...as long as its installed correctly. Just sitting in your car with it running for a couple minutes after you drive should be fine...just as you're doing. Use your own judgment. If you beat on the car, then go to park it right after, let it sit for a few minutes. If you've gone on a long drive, let it idle. As long as you weren't in boost, you don't need to let the car idle very long. I always usually wait at least a minute before turning my car off...and I drive like a grandma 90% of the time (i.e. little or no boost.)

If you're a busy person who's always in a rush and can't wait a few minutes to let your car idle to cool, maybe consider a TT. Always get it professionally installed by an auto electrical expert! No Best Buy guys!
