Question: I have a 1987 Chevy R10 Custom Deluxe Pickup 2wd and a 1990 Chevy Blazer 1500 4wd. Is it possible to use parts from the blazer to convert the pickup to 4wd?

maybe its an S10 Type-R!!! Assuming you're talking about an S10, the best way to find out is to try. make sure all your shafts fit and your linkage will fit into the cabin.

Thanks 57th Alchemist, I just want to see if the swap is possible since they are both full size trucks, I just don't know how the conversion from 2wd to 4wd would work, or if the frame would allow it (are they the same frame?), I wouldn't be able to do the work myself so I'd have to take it to a shop. Also, thanks for showing everybody what an R10 is!

Not only is it possible, but its relatively painless with a good donor vehicle. From what i can think of from the top of my head, you will need to get your rear driveshaft from the 2wd truck shortened. Measure everything again and again. Some frames already have the holes in the frame for the front leaf spring hangers, some don't. Swap out the axle, drill out the spring hangers from the blazer and bolt them onto the new frame, USE GRADE 8 BOLTS!! You will need to swap out the steering box and all things related. tie rods and stuff. This will be the hardest part of the whole swap. once you get the steering stuff in, bolt the axle and leaf springs in and put it on an alignment machine to make sure everything is good, make sure you get a four wheel alignment. At this point your truck will still be drivable if you don't pull your transmission yet. You can do the front axle in a three day weekend then just drive it around till you get another three day weekend to put your 4wd transmission and transfer case in. You will need to cut a hole in the floor for the 4wd shifer.

Do a Google on "four wheel drive conversion".
It's really a LOT of work to do right.
Four Wheeler magazine suggests that it would be cheaper to sell the current vehicle and buy a four-wheel-drive.....and THAT is if you are doing the work yourself.
Hiring it out will probably make it cost-prohibitive.....paying not only for the conversion, but the cleaning up of the old stuff to make it work.
And, will the truck be worth what you have invested when it is all done? Probably not.

What cost is he going to rack up? He has a donor truck with 95% of what he needs already on it, the cost is going to be getting a driveshaft for the rear, and Some nuts and bolts.
