i drove my car today and i hit 14lbs of boost is that dangerous for my engine?
I thought the stock boost pressure is 7lbs? i do have after market headers..
but stock intercooler and stock bov, also an aftermarket boost guage. I dont know if it would of went higher i let off at 14lbs. If not i have a hella fast car.
also i traded this car yesterday so i dont really know what other mods it has except a 400$ clutch

That's odd... I know if you shim the wastegate on some turbos the boost will go up but I'm not sure if DSM turbos can do that or not. Generally the level of boost that is safe to run depends on your engine's condition. I'd ask other DSM owners if 14 pounds is too much for your setup.

i'm not a DSM expert, but i've heard the stock boost has been anywhere from 10-15psi. Eagle says it's 11.4psi...
4G63? than no..should be OK but don't do it too too much

Maybe I'm ignorant but...headers? Turbo? Something's not adding up...

I'm not sure about your car, but I'm tuned to use 23psi of boost with my 4g63 (daily driven.) I also have all the supporting mods to do so. Do you have a stock turbo? Stock 1g BOVs hold boost well if you crush them (literally.) I was running a crushed 1g BOV for a long time before I just got my HKS. Check out a dsm-specific site maybe? There are a lot of people whose sole purpose in life is to build, tune, and race DSMs (my boyfriend being one of them...but he's at work so I can't ask him his opinion. lol)

Do you mean wastegate? The BOV just vents boosted air while shifting to not overload the engine and cause backpressure into the turbo. Thus causing turbo chatter which is the turbo being pushed backwards...bad bad bad

I was completely in awe one day when I discovered how a [dsm] throttle body worked. I sat there for 20 minutes like a kid with a video game, fascinated. I can hold up an auto-conversation pretty well, but I'm quick to admit when I'm not sure about something.
I know a BOV released excess pressure from going back into the engine; damaging it. I also thought they hold boost in as well. My crushed 1g used to blow off much easier than my HKS does now.

Stock boost is between 10-11 psi depending on certain conditions. Without a fuel pump you can run up to 15 psi. With a fuel pump (Walboro 190 or 255) you can run 19 psi on the stock turbo.
Also, I assume you are using the factory boost gauge on the instrument cluster, if so then don't they are WAY off. The reading is an estimated boost pressure calculated by the ECU. This would the Hz reading from your MAF and intake tempature. When I was reading 10 psi on my Autometer gauge, the factory said it was running 15 psi.

Ok I realized this is from September so I am looking like an ass right about now. I'll go to the Mitsubishi forums.

it also depends on how many miles u have on the car? if u are over 300k miles than id probally get a boost controoler and turn ur boost down man just to be safe.... unless u build it to hold more that is lol
