hi i have a 1998 chevy malibu and it keeps eating starters its pulling about 160 amps to start then the starter fries and the car wont start what could it be is it bad starters or a bigger problem??

You need to check the teeth on the flex plate. Thats the big round gear bolted to the crank shaft that the starter make contact with. Check the bendex gear on the starter, if it is chewed up then you will know for sure. You have to shim starter when you install them to make sure the gap is right. Sounds like the starter was installed right up agaist the block, which was too tight and the flew plate is eating the bendex gears.

try reading all of the thread its is pulling 160amps to start and then its getting messed up its not the fly wheel and i know where that is hmm how about that its not the bendex either i need to know why its pulling 160amps to start K thanks
