I am a new driver and a do it yourselfer and thats my first problem any how i just bought a power lock and key less entry kit from the internet

I read the very simplistic instructions and it said it needed to be connected to a +12v power source

So i figured since the car wouldn't be on most of the time that the system would be in use so it would need to be a constant source

The only place i could think of that had that in the car was the radio so i looked up how to get the radio out of the dash and the stereos wiring chart and started work.

so now my radio doesn't work the locks don't work (the manual locks work) and now it seams that my dome light and dimmer switch doesn't work

does anyone know haw i could start to fix it or did i f*** it bad enough that i would need the help of a pro

check fuses, never take 12v from a radio, at least use cigarete lighter 12v

but the power source has to always be on and the wires preferably hidden away from night and there is always the fact that my lighter blows the fuse that its on as soon as i push it in

not sure about your other problems, but another source for constant 12v is the hot wire in the ignition harness.

yeah, I can almost guarantee thats a fuse. ALWAYS disconnect the battery before messing with ANYTHING electrical. Usually even if you're not messing with electrical. I disconnect mine before I do ANY work.

the best way run a separate wire from the batt. thru the firewall

how would i go about this?

i checked the fuse panel and the radio and dome light are on a different fuse but i will check them all anyway tomorrow while i have some daylight

take an insulated wire, place a 12v inline fuse about 12inches from the end that connects to the battery. run the wire securely, and out of the way, to the firewall to an unused hole (a rubber grommet would be plugging it, pierce a hole through this).

There are usually multiple fuse panels. Usually the ones under the hood are engine/powertrain related items. Your radio/interior fuses will probably be between the dash and the door on either side.

ok now where do i connect it to the battery (sorry about being a noob) is there any sort of online tutorials possibly with pictures(doesnt have to be the same car just need to get an idea from it)

haha, its really not difficult. 12V is always gonna be the positive terminal of the battery. Do you know where the firewall is??? If you were to sit in the drivers seat and kick with your left foot, your foot just might go through the rubber grommet in the firewall.

so run it straight from the battery's positive connector
