Hi, I have a 1996 Blazer LT and I just today ran into some problems. I was driving home and all of the sudden realized I couldn't go above 30 mph. I'd press the accelerator pedal, and it would rev at low RPM's until 30 mph, but it wouldn't do anything beyond that point. The engine would just stop accelerating if I pressed the pedal any futher, until I let off on the pedal a bit and then it would go back to a low RPM, maxxing out at 30 mph ish. It does sound like something in the engine is still whirring around when I press the pedal further, but if that's true, it's not engaging to the wheels. Any guesses? Thanks

I'd agree with deltaolds.. I would have your transmission checked out.

I agree also. Try looking into the tranny.

Torque converter took a dump, I would bet money its a trans problem...I cant remember if the 96 still had the 700 R4 or if its the newer whatever number they gave it. Should cost between 300-750 to rebuild the whole thing. I would start calling trans shops in your area to get pricing and ask the local race guys who builds their transmissions.

If its the full size Blazer now called tahoe with the 5.7 v8 is the 4L60E. Out here in Nevada the local shops wanted no less than a grand to rebuild my old trans so I went with a new one. Hope you find some better deals where your at.

either way if its a 2 dr tahoe(essentially a re-bad full size blzr) or a s10 blazer(96 is when they acquired the blazer name only) they would both have the 4l60e
