Before you read all of this, if you're not interested in why i'm asking, or get bored easily, I advise you to read down to the bottom of the second paragraph. Thanks.

I went to a street race... rolled up to it with about 6 cars, including 3 acura's a firebird, a civic, and Desolce. Normally my thing is lifted trucks, 'cause I really just like the thought of it. Unforunetly I have neither, I just drive my 92' corolla.
So for now i've been going back and fourth week by week. Truck, Car, Truck, Car, Truck, Vesba... Well today i'm a car guy. i've looked up the WRX, The GTI's, Lancers, integra's... etc etc etc. But I really don't want a foreign car. So I come across this chevy Cobalt. I know everyone is so happy i finally go to the point!

So this i'm reading up on the cobalt, and pricing it and what not. so, I see that the car is almost always 5-speed. But after awhile I finally found the Automatic 4-speed transmission. Unforunetly all the information I had read up on was about the 5-speed! Oh shucks. so basically I want to know what you all think about the cobalt (Automatic) vs other cars, vs the Manual, and just plain what do you think. Only specific question I have is- anyone know what the Auto tops out at stock? I know the stock cobalt 5-speed is supposed to top out at like 143.
Thanks,
Riot

i drove an auto ls cobalt across the country

the seats are less than comfortable, the interior is cheap, but it's not a horrible car...

i hit the limiter at 105 and it would not go any faster

am i correct in assuming you wish to street race with an automatic Cobalt?
that is just uproariously funny.

the Cobalt is an alright car. it'll get you to school, work, the grocery store, wherever. unlike blah, i personally haven't driven one, but small cars equipped with an automatic trans. tend to be unimpressive.

-learn how to drive stick.
-pick a different car if you want to go fast.
-oh, and it's better if you race legally.

ricer in training....
the cobalt SS tops out at 143. but its a 200hp supercharged 5 speed. your POS 4 speed auto cobalt would have trouble hitting 100 on a flat surface. if you want it for a nice daily driver that inexpensive and economical, than go for it. if you want a fast car, start with a fast car.

Alright, thanks for the the responses. I should however clear up...
I wouldn't street race. screw that.
And i am against the entire ricer thing... or id be buying a cheap civic and a body kit =P
At any rate. maybe ill just buy a truck and run over fast cars.
Yeah, sounds good.

Stock smog controlled cars are always slow. The ecotech has lots of after market support thanks mostly to the J body guys. They can be just as fast as your beloved hondas. The thing that i don't like about them is the electronic power steering. They have a manual style rack with a big motor on the steering column. when you turn the wheel the motor assists. It actually leaves you feeling more disconnected from the road than hydraulic power steering does.
