My car was overcharging a bunch... volt meter read 18 volts going into the battery. I replaced the voltage regulator, fired it up, and the car still was overcharging. I replaced the alternator... this is when my problems increased. I accidentally hooked up the regulator cables in the swapped position... I started the car, it ran for a short moment, cut off and smoked a bit from the engine compartment. Now... the engine will not even turn over... no clicking ... nothing. I have lights and interior lights, the heater fan workds, the horn works, but when I turn the key to start... nothing happens... WHAT DID I DO? How can I fix? Help...

sounds like you burnt a fusable link. check your wiring diagrams for them, there should be one or two just as a guess.

What do these fusible links look like?
Are these fusible links just standar guage wire.... or is there a fuse in the lines?

A thick section of wire, mostly, but they all vary. This is why you'll need to check your wiring diagram.

Are these fusible links just standard guage wire.... or is there a fuse in the lines? Seems strange to me.... the wire just breaks? Is it noticable?

Do you think it is the one leading to the starter solenoid? How can I test it?
