Can anyone advise on removing wiper arms? I have a 1997 Olds 88. During a recent snowstorm I left the wipers on while they were apparently frozen.

Now, I can move them freely with my hand, but the motor does not move them. The motor still works from what I can hear, and if I provide some resistance, it will sometimes "catch" the arms and either pull them back down or push them back up.

I feel like if I can get the arms off I'll have a better idea of how to try to fix this. There's a little silver tab on the driver's side arm but when I try pushing it in/out/up/down it doesn't seem to budge.

Do you want to remove the actual arm, or the wipers themselves??? It sounds to me like the gears in your motor are stripped.

I'd like to remove the arms so I can look at the motors. Then again, I have never removed a wiper arm from a car before...

I think the motor is under the hood???

I can't get the plastic screen/cover thing off, though, without removing the wiper arms it seems...

oh, well there should be a lil cover right at the base of the arm that should pop off and there's a bolt under that, take it off and you're homefree.
