VN-1988-Troubles

Ok well lets cut to the chase i am no expert on cars i have recently brought a Holden Commodore VN 1988 model That isnt registered from a mate and he has had some kind of damage done under the back left hand wheel im not sure if its a welding job that i can do at home or wether or not i should take it to a mechanic it has to do with the shaft that connects the wheels to the car it isnt broken completely but has a minor split in the bottom of it about 2-3cms long so what do u think i can weld it or should i take it in for a repair . .?? also it might sound abit ametuer but how would i register my car in South Australia is there any kind of mechanic i have to see before i pay a registration fee ? i am clueless and confused so please get back to me ASAP pls thank you

Without knowing what sort of welding skills you do or do not possess, there is no way of assessing whether or not you, personally, are capable of effecting such a repair.
I believe I could do it - since I build race car suspension components all the time.
But, there is no way of ANYBODY being able to even guess whether you are or are not capable of such work.
Also, having not seen the actual component, it is impossible to determine if the break is, in reality, repairable...or if the component itself should be replaced.
Since you are questioning your own capacity, I would suggest that it just might be beyond your skill set.
It would be horrible to have such an important component break a weld and "steer" the car into the oncoming lane - right into the path of a car loaded with kids.

Well if the shaft has a major split in it thats 2 - 3 cms long than idd rather u get a new shaft replaced....u neva know wat could happen in the near future if u get it welded u can have some paorblems with it later on...best is to get it replaced
