There Is Some Sound Coming From It But It Sounds Like An Exhaust Leak..
i was just asking because if you have a catalitic converter that's old it falls appart, the pieces can block the exhaust. between this thread and the other, it sounds like your car has more than one problem...maybe

I dont see how an exhaust clog would make it not shift into higher gears??? Someone care to explain???
i think he has trans problems and others. your cat being clogged can prevent you from going fast, it can even cut off your car. a clogged egr, that'll kill power and everything as well. if his car is throwing codes for that, egr is one of the problems.

SIMPLE. comp. controled trans. gets signals from comp. comp, gets signals from various sensors, including egr..ect, wich if not working properly would send wrong signals, thus trany might think, you are going 30mph, while you are not. governor inside the trany can also misslead trainy's logic. vacum magulator can also be responsible. a chanel in valve body can be obstructed, and it won't shift.
but most likely his trany is shot, at 149000 miles, without changing oil and filter after each year(that what i allways do, and never had problems with trany.) clutch discs are probably grinded to nothing.
