I think I might consider the direct approach and *measure* the bar's diameter. The "32mm" SHOULD come in around 32 millimeters while the "34mm" SHOULD come in slightly bigger....around 34 millimeters.

Now, THAT's a loaded question.....If you've never even changed oil before and only have a pair of Vise-grips© and a screwdriver to work with, it will be substantially MORE difficult than if you have a few thousand dollars worth of hand tools and ASE certification.
