Hey everyone,
I was on the highway yesterday and my car decided when it's in 5th gear it wants to slip out and go to neutral. This poses a problem because due to loud music, I don't really notice it until it's red-lining. Does anybody have any ideas as to what this could be? It's only in 5th gear that this happens. Perhaps something needs to be tightened....

Turn down the radio and you won't have this problem. :D

Perhaps it's bad linkage? When the clutch starts to go, generally it's felt more in the upper gears, but the shifter actually slipping sounds like a linkage problem.

So then to rid myself of this issue, what should be the course of action?

If it is, in fact, a linkage problem, the cost to fix shouldn't be too bad. If it's the clutch, you're probably looking at no less than $400 to replace. Either way, you need a mechanic to look at it.

Call around to different shops. Ask them if they have had that before and what the solution was, how much they charge per hour etc. Don't just go to any ol' shop, you need to call around and ask questions. You could end up getting screwed with this problem. They could claim it's the clutch, charge you a boat load of money, then later you find out that it was a $50 link that was bad and your clutch was still good.

The clutch is fine, it feels brand new.

How are you "feeling" the clutch?

The "riding" point if you will, is maybe a half inch after letting the clutch out, as you said it probably is a linkage problem. As it was also said, it typically happens in the higher gears, but it's only happening in 5th gear so I don't see a clutch issue. I also don't see the correlation between the clutch and the gear, when it's already in gear.

Edit, I read your post wrong.

That is too early for the clutch to be grabbing. You want it to engage about 1/2 way or within that area. Engaging right at the floor does not leave alot of room to make sure the clutch is full disengaged between shifts and can wear down the transmission and clutch much faster.

Have that adjusted and check the linkage. Beyond that, it still could be the synchros.
