A friend gave me her 99 Beetle (should have known then) about 6 months ago. I've driven it once - from her house to mine. She said the only thing wrong was it needed a new battery. Got a new battery for it. It overheated and kept stalling all the way home. I've since replaced the radiator and alternator. I'm told a gasket is cracked and am taking it in soon for that...in the meantime, I've had to replace and recharge the battery numerous times. We thought the alternator was the problem but now that, that is fixed the battery still keeps dying. Any ideas of what to look at next? I'm a single mom and can't afford to take it to the dealership. I've found a mechanic that works on these cars but I'd like to know what we may need to take a look at. I've already spent $1000 on repairs on this "gift". Help! :(
